If you’re an adventurous hunter who prefers to work for your trophies, you’ll appreciate the rugged and challenging landscape of the largest pristine wilderness in the lower 48 states – broad grassy meadows and steep rocky cliffs to high mountain lakes teeming with fish. Our permit area encompasses more than 750 square miles of the Salmon-Challis, Payette, and Bitterroot National Forests, in the heart of the Frank Church Wilderness.

Hunts begin with dinner and a good night’s rest at the Salmon River Lodge Resort. The next morning is a pack-and-travel day up into the wilderness. Five nights are spent in mountain camps 6500 to 10,000 feet up, where large tasty meals will be prepared by our camp cooks. Hunting is from sun up to sun down. The final night is spent at Salmon River Lodge Resort for a hot shower, meal, and a good night’s rest. All hunts are one guide per two hunters. One-on-one guided hunts are also available. Discounts available for groups of 4 or more not to exceed 6 people per camp.

Hunting Packages

Combination:  6-10 day hunt for elk, deer, bear and wolf, offering 4 spots per year for four hunters. First and last nights are at Salmon River Lodge Resort, with 4-8 nights in base camps. This hunt is done in unit 20A or 20 and is very unique in that all mentioned species can be hunted during the elk rut and with a rifle. We pack into the wilderness on mules and horses for an adventure done the old way. We will live in wood heated wall tents and enjoy home cooked meals each day while chasing game during day light hours. Discounts for groups of four or more are possible.

Deer are in the 150-180 class and up. Elk are in the 280+ range with some 320-330+ trophies.

Forrest Hunts:  Combination of 4WD vehicles and horses and mules. Wall tents are home at night, with days spent hunting big-bodied elk, deer and bear. These hunts are done in unit 21. Two hunters to one guide.

Spring Bear Hunts: River bottom hunting over bait in the evenings and spending the mornings and mid day glassing from a boat or ridges for possible spot and stalk.

Wolves: These hunts are done two on one and on foot. We will fly into a back country landing strip and either walk out or take the Jet Boat back up river. These are only available twice a year in unit 20A. These will be offered in late May through the end of June. This is a great hunt to sharpen skills and get out and hunt in the off season.  Last year we had several sightings and harvested a nice 120-pound gray male. We use a variety of methods. We cover meals and flights from and back to Salmon, Idaho.
